The aim of this course is to teach the students, both graduate and undergraduate, to present their work in written and oral form.

The written presentation encompasses both Journal articles and internal progress reports. The successful student should be able firstly to comprehensively summarize the work of previous authors in the field. Secondly, the student must have the ability to effectively introduce his/her own work and contribution to the field. The core of the course shall then be thorough training in the structured presentation of the technical details of the student’s own work. Here equal attention shall be devoted to theoretical and experimental research. The student shall be shown how to build up the presentation of his/her work successively from well known and accepted facts to the new results obtained in the student’s research.
Finally, the student shall be taught to concisely summarize his/her work and to compare it with research already in print. In this manner an effective publication shall be written.

The structure of the oral presentation is essentially the same as that proposed for the written presentation, but there might be perhaps less emphasis on the comprehensive summary of previously published research. On the other hand, the student shall be taught to present a lively and interesting talk, and also to anticipate the possible reactions of the audience.

For homework the students will be asked to prepare both written and oral presentations.

At this early planning stage I am not text book to use for the course, since books devoted specifically to Physics do not seem to be on the market. However, a very promising candidate is Pocket Book of Technical Writing for Engineers & Scientists (McGraw-Hill)
which is available from Amazon.com.

We are also aware of the fact that English is not the native language of the students of the course. While we do not intend to teach English, we hope that the student’s ability to express themselves in the language
